Code of Ethics
Members of the Schipperke Club of Canada will do all in their power to protect and advance the interest of
the Schipperke breed.
Breeding: They conscientiously plan each litter based on the parents appropriate temperament and qualities
in relation to the breeds official standard. Before deciding to produce a litter they consider the possibility of properly
placing the puppies they cannot keep themselves. They use for breeding only mature animals which are of sound temperament,
which are free from hereditary defects such as incorrect dentition, orchidism, blindness, deafness, etc. and which are acceptable
under the breed standard. They safeguard bitches from unplanned matings and encourage bitch puppy buyers to allow her time
for proper recuperation.
Health: They maintain sanitary living conditions for all stock. They maintain the health of all stock
through regular check-ups, worming and vaccinations. They maintain all stock free of external/internal parasites and keep
adequate health records of all stock which will be given to the purchaser if stock is sold.
Registration: They register all their stock with the C.K.C. and supply all purchasers with C.K.C. registration
papers properly transferred to the purchaser. Use should be made of the non-breeding agreement for stock sold as pet quality
rather than guaranteed show/breeding quality.
Sales: They do not sell or consign stock to pet shops or other dealers. They sell stock, permit stud
service and lease bitches only to individuals who they are reasonably sure will abide by this Code of Ethics. They will provide
to all purchasers of stock, in writing, a three generation pedigree, feeding instructions and health record. They will also
supply purchasers with advice on the care of stock purchased. They will ensure that all stock sold is free of parasites and
has been inoculated. In advertising they state only factual material and never misrepresent any stock. They never permit any
of their stock to be used as the prize for raffles or draws.
Showing: They exhibit their stock to the best of their ability in conformation, obedience, etc. and maintain
a friendly and sincere attitude towards other exhibitors.
General: Whenever confronted with a situation not covered by this Code, they will conduct themselves
in a responsible manner which will not reflect badly on the Schipperke breed or themselves.
I am aware that failure to comply with this Code of Ethics could result in disciplinary action, such as denial
of voting privileges, reprimand, suspension or expulsion.
